Petaluma Art in the Park 2014
Say good-bye to summer and welcome the near-arrival of autumn at this annual event in Walnut Park. Over 2 days at the beginning of September, local artists display their works in this charming downtown park under the trees. Discover a range of genres such as paintings, photography, jewelry and textiles. Paintings include abstract and figurative subjects done in acrylics, oils, watercolors or pastels. Some of the artists will even make art while you're there, demonstrating their craft and expertise. The 57th Annual Art in the Park is sponsored by the Petaluma Arts Association, which has been an active part of the community for decades. In addition to the beautiful displays of art, which are up from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be live music on both days of the exhibition. On Saturday, the weekly Farmers' Market will take place, and is a fantastic destination for delicious, fresh food. Why not have a picnic in the park? Original artwork will be for sale, and many of the artists can take credit cards, but bring cash or your checkbook, just in case. Net proceeds from Art in the Park go towards grants for art curriculum in Petaluma's public schools as well as Santa Rosa Junior College. For more information about this free event, contact Tom Potenza, 707-694-5138; or Linda Donohue, 415-577-5802.
